Handmade Christmas Things

Askartelen aina kaikki antamani kortit ite, ja tässä on pari esimerkkiä tänä vuonna antamistani joulukorteista. :) Ylläolevien hamahelmikoristeet olen myös tehnyt itse, kuten allaolevan virkatut koristeetkin. Lisäksi virkkasin samasta langasta keittiönpöydälle tuollaisen paloista kasatun  pienen joululiinan.

Eipä muuta tällä kertaa. Saatan esitellä vielä muitakin jouluun liittyviä juttuja tässä pyhien aikana, ja jonkinlainen joululahjapostaus lienee myöskin tiedossa jossain vaiheessa. Hyvää joulua kaikille lukijoille! :)

I always make the cards I give myself, and here's a couple of examples of the Christmas cards I gave this year. :) The hama bead decorations of the upper ones are also made by me, same as the crocheted parts on the lower one. In addition, I crocheted some patches from the same yarn and combined them into a small Christmas tablecloth for the kitchen table.

That's all this time. I might show some other Christmas related things later during the holidays, and there's probably going to be some kind of Christmas present post later. Merry Christmas to all readers! :)

Moikka pitkästä aikaa! Pahoittelen taas tätä blogini hiljaiseloa, joka kylläkin tulee varmasti vielä jatkumaan jonkin aikaa. Loppusuoralla olevat opinnot ja muutkin asiat elämässä aiheuttaa stressii tällä hetkellä aika reippaasti, eikä bloggaaminen oo hirveesti innostanu viime aikoina. Nyt on kuitenkin luvassa taas jotain pari kuvaa kameran uumenista.

Naamakuva on otettu melkein tarkalleen kuukausi sitten, kun testailin käytettynä  ostamaani lainerautaa ekan kerran. Hieno peiliasukuvan peilikuva on myös samoilta ajoilta. Poikaystävän ollessa kertausharjoituksissa toisella puolella maata lainasin mm. tämän laiskiaispaitaa. ♥

Viime aikoina oon askarrellu vähä jotain joulujuttuja sekä koristellu muutenkin vähä aiempia vuosia enemmän kotia joulun kunniaksi. Yritän vielä saada esiteltyä niitä ennen joulua. :) Ja huomenna tulee uus Star Wars, iiks! Ite oon kylläkin menossa kattomaan sen vasta perjantaina. Pitänee vältellä internetiä huomisillasta siihen asti, etten spoilaannu...

Hi all, after a while! Again I'm sorry about this quietness going on in my blog, though it will probably continue for still some time. I've been quite stressed out, thanks to my studies being on the home stretch and other things in my life. So I haven't had that much inspiration for blogging. But now you're going to get a couple of photos I found from the depths of my camera.

The face pic was taken almost exactly a month ago, when I was testing a waving iron I had bought  second hand. The fancy reversed photo taken through a mirror is from last month too. My boyfriend was on a military refresher course on the other side of the country, so I could borrow e.g. his sloth shirt. ♥

I've been crafting some Christmas stuff lately and decorating home more than usually on Christmases before. I intend to show them here before Christmas. :) And tomorrow is the premiere of the new Star Wars, yikes! I'm going to watch it just on Friday. I guess I have to avoid the Internet from tomorrow night to Friday night, so I won't come across any spoilers...

Nyt, kun jouluaatostakin alkaa olla jo pari viikkoo ja oon kotonakin ollu jo viikon, niin vois alkaa olla aika esitellä joitain lempparijoululahjojani. Sain taas aika paljo kaikkee, joten en todellakaan ala esitellä kaikkia, ja kaiken lisäks suurin osa niistä oli semmosia "tylsiä" käyttöjuttuja kuten tyynyjä ja pyyhkeitä ja sukkahousuja, joten ei niitä nyt oo mitään järkee esitellä. Mut tässä tulee nyt sekalaisessa järjestyksessä joitain kivoja juttuja, joita sain tänä jouluna.

Ensinnäkin sain taas corgiseinäkalenterin, jee! ♥

Tässä onkin sit oikeestaan tärkeimmät lahjat samassa kuvassa: uus hiustenkuivaaja, kamera ja hiiri.

Hiustenkuivaajaa käytän kyllä äärimmäisen harvoin, mut entinen kosahti just ennen jouluu, ja onhan semmonen hyvä olla olemassa, kun sitä kuitenkin joskus voi tarvita. Uus kamera sen sijaan oli ollu ykkösenä toivelistalla, ja toi Canonin IXUS 150 vaikuttaa ihan hyvältä miun tarpeisiin. Tän postauksen kuvat on (viimestä kuvaa lukuun ottamatta) otettu sillä. Alla vielä ovela peilikuvan peilikuva itse kamerasta.

Lisäks pelaajapoikaystävältäni toivoin jotain kunnon pelihiirtä, kun miulla oli ennestään vaan joku surkee langaton palikka. Alla vertailukuva. Toi Kinzu on just hyvä, kun se on vähä pienempi kuin pelihiiret yleensä eli se sopii miunkin hobittikädelle. Lisäks se tuntuu muutenkin miellyttävältä.

Kirjoja sain varmaan enemmän kuin koskaan kerralla. Tässä lempparivampyyrikirjasarjani kolme ekaa osaa samoissa kansissa sekä Finishing School -sarjan uusin osa.

Fanityttöpuoltani ei ollu myöskään unohettu, koska sain sekä Darth Vader -aamiaissetin (!!!) että Ian Doescherin William Shakespeare's Star Wars Trilogy -kirjat. Siis Shakespearen tyyliin kirjotetut episodit IV, V ja VI. Parasta.

Sit tuli kasa leivontakirjoja.

Lisäks pikkusisko yllätti ihan täysin Tom of Finland -laukkulahjallaan! En kyllä hirveesti tykkää tosta printistä, tai siis oon sitä mieltä, että Tom of Finlandin taiteesta ois varmasti löytyny parempiakin kuvia, mut oon kuitenkin innoissani tosta ideasta ja siitä, että Finlayson on uskaltanu tehä tollasia vähä erilaisia tuotteita. Lisäks toi laukku on tosi hyvänkokonen; jouluviikolla kävin kaverin luona pelailemassa lautapelejä, ja lautapeliboksi mahtu täydellisesti tohon laukkuun.

Siinäpä oli kai semmoset tärkeimmät saamani lahjat. Ite annoin kans joitain lahjoja harvoille ja valituille eli lähinnä perheelle. Poikaystävän vanhemmille virkkasin tommoset pöllölasinaluset, joista tuli mielestäni aika kivat. :) Malli on Emmacrochetdesign4U:n.

The Christmas eve was two weeks ago and I've been home for a week already, so I guess it's starting to be the time for showing some of my favourite presents. I got many kinds of things again, and I definitely am not going to show them all, since most of them are "boring" stuff like pillows and towels and tights, so there's no point in showing them. But here's, in random order, some of the cool things I got this Christmas. 

First of all, I got a new corgi calendar, yay! ♥

Then, basically the most important presents I received are on the second picture: a new hairdryer, camera and mouse.

A hairdryer is something I use quite rarely, but my old one broke down just before Christmas, and I think it's good to have one ahyway, since you do need it every once in a while. New camera was top 1 on my wishlist, and that Canon IXUS 150 seems to suit my needs. The photos of this post (except the last one) have been taken with it. There's a clever reversed photo of a mirror image where you can see the actual camera.

In addition, I wished for a proper gaming mouse from my gamer boyfriend, since I had only some sucky wireless block. There's a comparison photo. That Kinzu is just perfect, because it's smaller than an average gaming mouse, so it fits my hobbit hand too. Moreover it feels comfortable in other ways too. 

I probably got more books than ever at once. I got the first three parts of my favourite vampire book series in one book and the newest part of Finishing School series.

My fangirl side also got pampered, as I got both Darth Vader breakfast set (!!!) and the William Shakespeare's Star Wars Trilogy books by Ian Dorscher. Episodes IV, V and VI written in the style of Shakespeare. That's just awesome.

I also got a pile of baking books.

And then my little sister totally surprised me with a Tom of Finland bag she gave me! I don't actually even like the print so much, and I think there would've been much better pictures in Tom of Finland art, but I'm excited about the idea and about that Finlayson has had the courage to make a bit different products. In addition, the size of the bag is great; on the Christmas week, I went to play some board games with a friend of mine, and a board game box did fit perfectly in the bag. 

I guess those were the most important presents I received. I also gave some presents myself, mainly just for the family. For the parents of my boyfriend, I crocheted those owl coasters that turned out quite cool. :) The pattern is by Emmacrochetdesign4U.

Christmas makeup & cake

Kävin viime viikolla ostelemassa H&M:ltä joitain juttuja jouluu varten, ja samalla tuli ostettuu vähän meikkejäkin, jotka pääsi tositoimiin lauantaina, kun juhlittiin armaani kanssa yhessä jouluu (ennen kuin kumpikin lähettiin jouluks entisille kotipaikkakunnillemme vanhempien luo).

Meikkaamisen jälkeen vaihoin päälle jotain pientä ja nättiä, josta en sattuneesta syystä ottanu kuvaa. ;) Mut tossa näkyy nyt meikki jotenkuten.

Meiän juhlailtaan kuulu mm. yhteistä kokkailua. Minttusuklaajuustokakku oli tehty jääkaappiin hyytymään jo aiemmin, ja sit syötiin sitä jälkiruoaksi. Reunat ei irronnu kakkuvuoasta hirveen nätisti, vaan ne jäi vähä rosoisiksi, mut oli oikein maukasta kuitenkin. :)

Last week I was shopping some Christmas things at H&M, and I bought also some makeup that I used then on Saturday, when me and my beloved were celebrating Christmas together (before leaving to spend the Christmas with our parents in our former home towns).

After putting on the makeup, I changed into something small and pretty, and for reasons I didn't feel like taking a photo of that outfit. ;) But in that one you can somehow see the makeup.

On our celebration night, we cooked together, among other things. We had made a mint chocolate cheesecake earlier, and it was our dessert. The sides of the cake didn't come off the tin that prettily, and they were a bit rough, but it was delicious nevertheless. :)

The words on the cake mean "Merry Christmas" in Finnish. I wish you readers a merry Christmas, too! ♥

Every time a cat cleans itself it is worshipping the Dark Lord

Nyt on kyllä taas niin huonolaatusia kuvia, että ois varmaan parempi jättää ne julkasematta, mut minkäs teet, kun on huono kamera ja vielä huonommin valoo tarjolla. Joululahjatoivelistalla on kyllä uus kamera, mut saa nähä, miten toiveen toteutumisen suhteen käy.

Mut tässä nyt tosiaan pari kuvaa keskiviikolta, jollon miulla oli lukukauden vika tentti. Unettomuuden takii en oo viime aikoina jaksanu juurikaan liikkuu missään tai laittautuu, joten oli ihan kiva taas miettii päivän asuu ja meikkejä. :)

Kuten näkyy, oon yrittäny kunnostautuu housujenkäyttäjänä. Noi punaset ruutuhousut on kyllä huiput joka tilanteen housut. Ja pahoittelen psykoottista ilmettä. :D Vissiin se unettomuus näkyy sit jossain.

Toppi on Threadlessilta, eikä sitäkään oo tainnu vielä täällä blogin puolella näkyy. Siinä on aika siisti printti.

Miun oli alkujaan tarkotus kerätä tähän postaukseen jotain muutakin asiaa, mut alko vähä tuntuu siltä, ettei välttämättä inspiraatio tai aika riitä, joten tässä nyt tää asupuoli ainakin. Jotain joulujuttuja saattaa ehkä mahdollisesti olla vielä tiedossa. Miulla alko ton tentin jälkeen tosiaan loma, ja rupesin sit heti eilen askartelemaan joulukortteja niille harvoille, joille jaksan tänä vuonna semmoset väkerrellä, sekä virkkailemaan jotain anoppilaan joululahjaksi. :>

These photos are once again such poor quality that it might be wiser not to publish them, but, well, what can you do with a bad camera and even worse light. I have a new camera on my Christmas wishlist, but it remains to be seen, if the wish is going to come true or not.

But anyway, here's a couple of photos from Wednesday when I had the last exam of the semester. Due to insomnia I haven't lately felt like going anywhere or dressing up, so it was fun to plan the outfit and makeup of the day after a while. :)

As you can see, I've been trying to excel at wearing pants. Those red checkered pants are great in almost every occasion. And I apologise for the psychotic expression. :D I guess the insomnia isn't entirely invisible.

The top is from Threadless, and I guess I haven't shown it in blog before. It has quite a cool print in it.

I was supposed to collect some other stuff in this post too, but it started to feel like I might not have enough time or inspiration, so here's at least the outfit part. It's possible that I'll post about some Christmas stuff later. The exam of Wednesday was the last thing between me and my holiday, and right in the beginning of my holiday I started to make cards for those few I decided to make cards this year and to crochet something for my partner's parents as a present. :>

A Star Wars nerd & a black Christmas elf

Nyt on luvassa taas (huonoja) asukuvia. Nää on eiliseltä, jolloin kävin eka päivällä lounaalla kavereitten kanssa ja siitä siirryin sit pikkuhiljaa valmistautumaan illan pikkujouluihin. Päivällä en jaksanu juurikaan meikata, ja rakensin simppelin asun pitkän Star Wars -topin ympärille.

Illalla ei sit enää valo riittäny muualla kuin kylppärissä, jonka valo kylläkin on tommosta ärsyttävän keltasta. Mut halusin lopultakin esitellä virallisen jouluasuni täällä blogin puolellakin. Ostin ton mekko/lakki-yhdistelmän EMP:ltä viime vuonna. Tänä vuonna se on päässy päälle jo kerran aiemminkin eilisen lisäks.

Tonttulakki on kyllä miun mielestä aika hankala vaatekappale, kun ei se oikein sovi pitkien hiuksien kanssa, kuten ei toki oikein muutkaan tommoset pipomaiset hatut. Parempi kuva hatun tekstistä löytyy muuten täältä.

Vielä ois ainakin yhet pikkujoulut tiedossa. Mitenkäs teillä, onko joulupippaloita riittäny? :)

Now you'll get again (bad) outfit photos. These are from yesterday when I first went to lunch with some friends and then went on to getting little by little prepared for a Christmas party. In the daytime I didn't really feel like using much make-up, and the center of my simple outfit was a long Star Wars top.

In the evening, there was no enough light to take photos anywhere but in my bathroom of which light is annoyingly yellow. But I wanted to show my official Christmas costume here in this blog too. A bought the dress/hat combo from EMP last year. This year I've worn it already once before yesterday.

I find the Christmas hat quite a difficult piece of clothing, since it doesn't really go with longer hair, which of course goes with other beanie-like hats too. Btw, you can find a better photo of the hat's text here.

I still have at least one Christmas party to go. How about you, have you had a lot of parties? :)

Deceitful December

Tänään on 1. joulukuuta, eli sehän tarkottaa sitä, että sain eilen illalla ripustaa joulukalenterin seinälle ja tänä aamuna avata siitä ekan luukun! Ja kyllä kelpaa pitää seinällä tän näköstä kalenterii:

En oo mikään varsinainen jouluihminen, mut joulukalenteri pitää olla. Etenkin, jos sattuu löytämään jonkin kivannäkösen yksilön. Mut alkaa kyllä olla tuskaista käydä ruokaostoksilla, kun kaupoissa vaan pauhaa helvetillisiä joululauluja. Vihaan niitä niin paljon, ja yritän vaan selviytyy mahollisimman nopeesti kaupasta pois. Muutenkin kaikki jouluhössötys ärsyttää.

No, onneks joulu on vaan kerran vuodessa. Ite en oo vielä hirveesti kerinny hoidella joulujuttuja, mut nyt kun alkaa kouluhommat pikkuhiljaa helpottaa, niin pääsee keskittymään esim. appivanhempien joululahjan tekemiseen. Muutama paketti alkaa kyllä olla jo kasassa.

Mut siinä tarpeeks jouluhöpinää. Joulusissa tunnelmissa oon kyllä tainnu olla myös eräällä luennolla, jonka muistiinpanoja lueskelin tossa aamulla ennen tän päiväistä tenttiä.

Oli kyllä aika hankala tentti, mut mitä muuta toisaalta voikaan oottaa kurssilta, jolla on käsitelty kaikki 7 suomen lähisukukieltä (eli itämerensuomalaista kieltä) tyypillisine piirteineen ja historioineen ja muineen.

Aurinko oli jo laskenu, kun lähin tenttiin, joten asukuvat ei sit sisävalossa onnistunu. Naamakuvistakaan ei tullu kummosia, mut tässä nyt lopuks kuitenkin niistä ehkä siedettävin. Näytän kyllä ihan aivokuolleelta, mut sitä se opiskelu kai teettää.

Today is the first day of December, which means that yesterday I got to hang my advent calendar on the wall and today I got to open the first window! And my calendar looks so gorgeous.

I'm not exactly a Christmas person, but and advent calendar is a must. Especially if I happen to find a cool one. But shopping food and other things is starting to be quite horrible, since there's those infernal Christmas carols playing in every store. I hate them so much, and I just try to make my shopping as fast as possible and run away. All Christmas fuss is quite annoying.

Well, fortunately Christmas is only once a year. I have already a few Christmas presents ready, but I haven't really had time to get them all. Now, as I don't have much school stuff anymore to do this autumn, I can focus on e.g. making a present for my partner's parents.

But that's enough with Christmas. I guess I was feeling Christmassy on a lesson of which notes I was reading this morning before an exam I had later today. The exam was quite hard, but what else can you expect from a course focusing on all 8 Finnic languages (except Finnish) and their features and histories and so on.

The sun had already set as I left for the exam, and my outfit photos didn't turn out very well in the indoor light. The face pics weren't that good either, but there's one anyway. It's maybe the most tolerable one. I really look like I'm brain-dead or something, but I guess that's what studying does to a human-being.

Hi there! I just wanted to quickly wish you all a happy Christmas or Yule or whatever you are (or are not) celebrating. :) I already got a few presents, and I'm going to get more in the evening. Yay, looking good so far. ^_^ Probably I'll make a post of my favourite presents later or something. But now I'm going to have some Christmas porridge!

The outfit of a frost day

Sää on ollut ihan älytön viimesen viikon aikana. Välillä on reilummin pakkasen puolella, ja välillä taas on plussa-asteita ja sataa vettä. Ite tykkäisin eniten noin 5 asteen pakkasesta, mut vois toi säätila joka tapauksessa vakiintuu johonkin suuntaan.

Eräänä pakkaspäivänä päätin sit pukeutuu äitini neulomaan nättiin mekkoon, joka lämmittää aina mukavasti. Tykkäsin paksun mekon ja ohuen paidan kontrastista.

Koska luonnonvalo alkaa olla hyvin vähissä ja pimee tulee jo kolmen maissa, vähänkään hyvälaatuisia kuvia alkaa olla aika hankala ottaa (ainakaan miun kameralla). :/

Meinasin muuten tehä pienen joululahjatoivelistan tänne blogiin, mut en sit jaksanutkaan. :D Aattokin on jo viikon päästä, joten ei Joulupukkikaan sitä välttämättä enää huomaisi. ;> Oon kuitenkin mielestäni ollut taas oikein kiltti tänä vuonna, ja toivottavasti lahjasäkistä löytyy ees jotain sellasta, mistä oon vuoden aikana esittäny toiveita. Tarpeellisin lahja olisi varmaankin uusi puhelin, ja esimerkiksi myös uudet tohvelit tulisivat tarpeeseen. Mut toivottavasti ei tuu pelkästään tylsiä tarpeellisia lahjoja, vaan jotain kivaa ja ilahduttavaakin (kuten corgitavaraa). ^_^

Mitä teiän lahjatoivelistoilta löytyy?

The weather has been crazy here during last week. One day it's freezing and another day it's raining. I'd prefer about 5 (Celsius) degrees of frost, but anyway it'd be nice if the weather stabilized in some way.

On a frost day I decided to wrap up in a pretty dress knitted by my Mum. I liked the contrast between the thick dress and the sheer shirt.

Because there aren't that much natural light anymore here and the sun sets around 3 p.m., it's starting to be pretty hard to take photos that don't look extremely crappy (at least with my camera). :/

I was going to make a little Christmas wishlist here on my blog, but after all I didn't feel like it. :D The Christmas Eve is already on next week, so probably Santa wouldn't even notice it anymore. ;> But I think I've been very nice this year, and I hope the present sack will contain at least something I've been hoping for during the year. Probably the most worthwhile present would be a new phone, and for example new slippers would also come in handy. But I hope I won't get only useful presents but something delightful and cool too (like corgi stuff). ^_^

A bit alternatively Christmassy

Rawwr! Noi dinosauruskaverukset oli hienoimmat piparkakkumuotit, jotka onnistuin tästä kylästä löytämään, joten ne lähti sitten kaupasta matkaani piparikokeilua varten. En ollu aiemmin tehny ite piparitaikinaa, ja päätettiin sitten armaani kanssa kokeilla jotain vähän erilaista eli cayennepippurilla ja kaakaolla maustettuja pipareita. Ei ne loppujen lopuksi maistuneet kovinkaan erilaisilta kuin tavalliset piparit (perinteisiäkin piparimausteita kuitenkin taikinassa oli), mut ihan hyviä niistä tuli kuitenkin. Koristeltiinkin sit muutama dino.

Joulu tulee rytinällä ja pikkujoulukausi on alkanu aikapäivät sitten. Itekin oon ollu joulubileilemässä tässä kahdella peräkkäisellä viikolla, ja ensi viikolla olisi sellaista luvassa taas. Koska en oo mitenkään perinteisen joulun suuri ystävä, virallinen jouluasunikin on vähän erilainen:

Tykkäisin tosta hatusta enemmän, jos siinä lukis vaikka "DARK X-MAS" tai jotain vastaavaa, koska en järin heavy oo, mut no jaa, on toi ihan ok tolleenkin.

Pidän kyllä joulusta omalla tavallani, koska nautin kovasti lahjojen antamisesta ja korttien askartelusta, mutta tontut, joulukoristeet, jouluruoat ja muu vastaava hössötys ei oikein tunnu omalta. Oon aika lailla "velvoitettu" viettämään jouluu aina perheeni kanssa, ja siellä on just aina kaikkee tommosta. No, ehkä vielä joskus saan viettää jouluu rauhassa niin kuin ite haluun, esimerkiksi metallista väännetyn puun vieressä Nightmare Before Christmasia töllistellen sushitarjotin sylissä. (Joulusushi ois hieno asia.)

Rawwr! Those dinosaur buddies were the fanciest gingerbread moulds I managed to find in this town, so I took them with me for a gingerbread experiment. I hadn't earlier made gingerbread dough myself, and me and my loved one decided to try something a bit different: gingerbread cookies seasoned with cayenne pepper and cocoa. In the end, they didn't taste so different than normal gingerbread cookies (there were traditional gingerbread seasonings also in the dough), but they turned out pretty good. We even decorated a few dinos.

So, Christmas is arriving pretty fast and the Christmas party time has started a while ago. I've been on few Christmas parties during last two weeks, and on next week there's another party. Because I'm not that big fan of traditional Christmas stuff, even my official Christmas dress is a bit different. I'd like the hat more if it said "DARK X-MAS" or something like that, because I'm not very heavy, but oh well, it's ok like that too.

I do like Christmas in my own way, because I really enjoy giving presents and making cards, but elves, Christmas deco, Christmas foods and things like that don't go down so well with me. I'm pretty much "obligated" to spend Christmas every year with my family, and there are that kind of Christmas stuff. Well, maybe someday I'll get the chance to spend Christmas like I want to, for example beside to a metallic tree watching Nightmare Before Christmas and eating sushi. (Christmas sushi would be so cool.)
