"Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts."

Parasta.

Sit tuli kasa leivontakirjoja.

Lisäks pikkusisko yllätti ihan täysin Tom of Finland -laukkulahjallaan!

:) Malli on Emmacrochetdesign4U:n.

The Christmas eve was two weeks ago and I've been home for a week already, so I guess it's starting to be the time for showing some of my favourite presents. I got many kinds of things again, and I definitely am not going to show them all, since most of them are "boring" stuff like pillows and towels and tights, so there's no point in showing them. But here's, in random order, some of the cool things I got this Christmas.

First of all, I got a new corgi calendar, yay! ♥

Then, basically the most important presents I received are on the second picture: a new hairdryer, camera and mouse.

A hairdryer is something I use quite rarely, but my old one broke down just before Christmas, and I think it's good to have one ahyway, since you do need it every once in a while. New camera was top 1 on my wishlist, and that Canon IXUS 150 seems to suit my needs. The photos of this post (except the last one) have been taken with it. There's a clever reversed photo of a mirror image where you can see the actual camera.

In addition, I wished for a proper gaming mouse from my gamer boyfriend, since I had only some sucky wireless block. There's a comparison photo. That Kinzu is just perfect, because it's smaller than an average gaming mouse, so it fits my hobbit hand too. Moreover it feels comfortable in other ways too.

I probably got more books than ever at once. I got the first three parts of my favourite vampire book series in one book and the newest part of Finishing School series.

My fangirl side also got pampered, as I got both Darth Vader breakfast set (!!!) and the William Shakespeare's Star Wars Trilogy books by Ian Dorscher. Episodes IV, V and VI written in the style of Shakespeare. That's just awesome.

I also got a pile of baking books.

And then my little sister totally surprised me with a Tom of Finland bag she gave me! I don't actually even like the print so much, and I think there would've been much better pictures in Tom of Finland art, but I'm excited about the idea and about that Finlayson has had the courage to make a bit different products. In addition, the size of the bag is great; on the Christmas week, I went to play some board games with a friend of mine, and a board game box did fit perfectly in the bag.

I guess those were the most important presents I received. I also gave some presents myself, mainly just for the family. For the parents of my boyfriend, I crocheted those owl coasters that turned out quite cool. :) The pattern is by Emmacrochetdesign4U.

Deceitful December

No, onneks joulu on vaan kerran vuodessa.

Today is the first day of December, which means that yesterday I got to hang my advent calendar on the wall and today I got to open the first window! And my calendar looks so gorgeous.

I'm not exactly a Christmas person, but and advent calendar is a must. Especially if I happen to find a cool one. But shopping food and other things is starting to be quite horrible, since there's those infernal Christmas carols playing in every store. I hate them so much, and I just try to make my shopping as fast as possible and run away. All Christmas fuss is quite annoying.

Well, fortunately Christmas is only once a year. I have already a few Christmas presents ready, but I haven't really had time to get them all. Now, as I don't have much school stuff anymore to do this autumn, I can focus on e.g. making a present for my partner's parents.

But that's enough with Christmas. I guess I was feeling Christmassy on a lesson of which notes I was reading this morning before an exam I had later today. The exam was quite hard, but what else can you expect from a course focusing on all 8 Finnic languages (except Finnish) and their features and histories and so on.

The sun had already set as I left for the exam, and my outfit photos didn't turn out very well in the indoor light. The face pics weren't that good either, but there's one anyway. It's maybe the most tolerable one. I really look like I'm brain-dead or something, but I guess that's what studying does to a human-being.

Heading home for weekend

Tai no en tiiä, varmaan se kypärä maistuis ihan joltain kypäränkiillotusvahalta, eikä Vader välttämättä muutenkaan arvostais tällaista. En ehkä haluis tulla kuristetuksi Voimalla. Mut ehkä se ois sen arvoista?

Mukavaa viikonloppuu joka tapauksessa kaikille. Sunnuntaina esittelen tarkemmin äitienpäiväaskartelutuokioni tuloksia. :)

The rainbow week Hohto started yesterday in Joensuu, but I packed my laptop and other necessary stuff in my bag and headed home for the Mother's Day weekend. Since I apparently haven't shown this gorgeous Darth Vader top in action, I give you now the photo of the yesterday's outfit, where the top played an essential part.

Vader would really need some love in his life, so I think it's great, that he's got a kiss from somebody. With that top I usually wear also red lip make-up, indicating that I could too kiss that shiny helmet. ;>

Or, hmm, I don't know. Maybe the helmet tastes like helmet wax or something, and maybe Vader wouldn't approve that kind of gesture. I might not want to be strangled with the Force. But maybe it would be worth it?

Anyways, I hope you all have a nice weekend. On Sunday I will show you how my Mother's Day craftings did turn out. :)

"Love the giver more than the gift."

Vader-vuoka! Iik! Oon haaveillu tommosesta tosi pitkään. Onneks tällä viikolla on Star Wars -päivä May the Fourth, niin pääsen piakkoin testaamaan tota. ^_^

Tää seuraava lahja on ehkä yllättävin lahja, jonka oon saanu aikoihin, enkä tiiä, oisinko koskaan tullu ostaneeksi ite itelleni moista, mut ihastuin siihen kyllä heti; oonhan lapsesta asti tykänny lampaista.

Hih, ihana laukku. Oon kyllä kaivannu tommosta pienempää laukkuu esim. baarikäyttöön, joten tuli kyllä ihan tarpeeseen. Lisäks se on paikallista käsityötä, mistä oon myös iloinen, koska pyrin aina tukemaan käsityökulttuuria. (Suurimman osan antamistani lahjoista ostan paikallista käsityötä myyvistä liikkeistä.) Ja onhan toi ihan hiton sympaattinen. ♥

It's not always that easy to tell someone how they mean to you. I've always considered giving gifts as a concrete way to show one's caring and love, and I always get so happy if I get some gifts. But it's not always so easy to decide what to give as a gift and you may not always get as good gifts, but sometimes you get something so surprisingly pleasing that you don't really know how to react or thank the giver properly.

So now I'm going to show some of the gifts I got on my birthday. Let's start with the most romantic one, or the pendant that has already flashed in a couple of posts. There shouldn't be confusion about the giver. :) I'm not yet sure what to do with the pendant, because it had a leather cord with it, and I'm not that fond of cords. But it doesn't work very well with a chain either, because it's meant to be used with the cord in a certain way, that there'll be a knot in the middle, so the pendant will be straight.

Since I've been making my mark as a baker, I got a new baking thing: a Vader mould! Yikes! I've been wanting one for so long. Luckily the Star Wars Day May the Fourth is on this week, so I'll soon get chance to try the mould. ^_^

The next gift is maybe the most surprising gift I've ever got, and I'm not sure if I would ever have bought that kind of thing myself, but I immediately fell in love with it; I've been liking sheep since I was a kid. Hih, such a lovely bag. I've been needing a smaller bag like that for example using in bars. Also it's a local handicraft, which makes me happy, because I always try to support handicraft culture. (I buy most of the gifts I give to people from shops selling local handicrafts.) And it's so damn cute. ♥

One can never have too much jewellery, and I don't have many bracelets, so especially that bracelet delighted me in that pearl jewellery set.

If one's celebating their birthday on Easter, it's obvious that they get a lot of Easter chocolate as a gift. But I don't mind, since I happen to like chocolate a lot. But I suppose it's understandable I didn't feel like photographing them. Instead I took a photo of some other delicious-looking things. Oh well, that sheep lolly is a bit Easter-themed, but it's soo cute. Clearly people remembered that I like penguins, since there were penguins on the cards and as gifts also. The handmade penguin chocolates and the choco chili coffee are still waiting to be tasted, but I'm sure they both are tasty.

Speaking of penguins, I got also a little penguin plushie as a gift.

And last but not the least, the only gift I really wished and expected: monetary support for CHI straightening that I actually had today. Unfortunately I wasn't clever enough to take "before" and "after" photos, so there's no hair photos. And it's still quite difficult to say how straight this hair now really is, because it was yet straightened after the treatment, and now I'm not allowed to do anything to it for 24 hours. I guess the final result will be revealed after the first wash. But it surely did look quite straight at the hairdresser's before that last straightening. ^_^ Maybe I don't have to spend about an hour each morning for straightening my hair.

I really liked all gifts – also those that didn't make it to the photos. I think that now I'll start sewing more patches on my overalls for May Day. :) (It's quite a big student holiday here in Finland, and university students naturally celebrate it in their overalls.)

Tän päivän oon vaan fiilistelly Stam1nan uutta levyy, jonka eräästä kappaleesta otsikon sitaattikin on. Eka singlelohkaisu Panzerfaust sai miut kyllä aika huolestuneeksi, mut toinen sinkku Dynamo lievensi jo huolta, ja ite levy paljastuikin sit taas aikamoiseksi eargasmiksi. ♥

I had to try my new Vader necklace on, with a casual outfit, right at the beginning of this week. It seemed to be exuding some kind of dark force...

There's only a crappy mirror pic of the dress. Quite simple but rather cute polka dot dress that's bought at H&M's children's clothes department. It's great to be the size that the biggest children's clothes usually fit.

Today I've been just enjoying Stam1na's new album. The quote in the heading is from a song on that album. The first single Panzerfaust made me a bit worried, but the second single Dynamo took my worries away, and the album itself proved to be quite an eargasm once again. Metal isn't my favourite music genre, but Stam1na has been close to my heart for years already, and it's probably my favourite Finnish band. Next week I'm going to enjoy the band also live. ♥

Second hand Vader

Hihii. ♥ Oon joskus katellukin tota toppii EMP:llä, mut kannatti kyllä oottaa, koska nyt sain aika lailla uudenveroisen topin halvemmalla. Jee jee. Lisäks toi koru koho-Dartheineen on aika pähee. Vaaleenpunanen on vähä hankala väri kylläkin, mut eiköhän toi kokomustan asun kanssa oo oikein fabulous.

Hyvää viikonloppuu kaikille!

I happened to spot some neat Darth Vader stuff on a gothic flea market, and the little nerd girl just couldn't resist it. I declared my buying willingness for sellers of a black top and a pendant with pink background, and though both products were from different sellers and I payed them on different days, they both arrived yesterday in the same time and dropped through my letterbox onto my Welcome to the Dark Side doormat.

The top is otherwise pretty boring and common, so I took a photo of only its print. Hihii. ♥ I've been watching that at EMP, but I'm glad I waited because now I got a nearly new top with less money. Yay. And that necklace with 3D Darth is quite gorgeous. Pink though is rather difficult colour, but I'm sure it looks fabulous with an all black outfit.

Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Finds from a clothing swap & back to school

Ilmaset vaatteet on aina jes.

Varmaan muut siellä kurssilla on jotain kunnon animehörhöjä. :D

Huomenna palailen "koulun" penkkiin sit taas. Tällä viikolla alkaakin vaan yks kurssi, Tulkkauksen perusteet, jonka eka luento on siis huomenaamulla.

:D Paitsi kuunnella Nine Inch Nailsin uutta levyä.

There was an event called Joen yö here last Friday, and I went to see some of its acts. A local animal rights organization was throwing a clothing and items swap, so I carried there a bag of my old clothes, and I found something for myself too.

I need to work on that dotted shirt, because it has shoulder pads and it's too big for me. I took a liking to the fabric, which is why I took the shirt with me. That lilac/purple/whatever-the-colour-is shirt might also look better after some personalizing; black details could look great. The grey shirt is fine like that, and I really like the dress that is under the pile.

I didn't find anything else to take/buy in Joen yö, though there were all kinds of stalls around the city. Free clothing is always a cool thing.

Today I was brisk and woke up at ten to six in the morning to enrol on a basic course of Japanese. And on Friday I'll get to know if I can get on a course of German. Yup, I'm planning on starting to study two new languages this autumn. I've been craving German since primary school where I could have had a chance to start studying it, but there weren't enough pupils interested in taking it.  In secondary school I started French, because it appealed more to the romantic goth in that time, and I didn't want to take two new languages. In high school I had enough work with the other languages and maths and physics and stuff, though I would've liked to start German then. I just didn't have time.

But maybe this time I'm lucky! And Japanese was in fact just a whim. Sure I've been listening to Japanese music since secondary school etc. etc., but learning the language itself hasn't really interested me. Naturally I've tried to figure out the meanings of some of my favourite songs, but that's pretty much it. I guess the others on that course are real anime geeks. :D

Tomorrow I'm getting back to "school". Only one course is starting this week, it's a course about interpretation, and its first lecture is on tomorrow morning. The thought of interpreting stuff terrifies me a bit, but maybe I'll survive. I've prepared for the new academic year with some new things.

I thought I could finally buy that kind of cardboard folder where I can carry papers, it's my fourth year in the university after all. But I guess I wouldn't really have bought a folder if I hadn't spotted that Darthy one. Ah. ♥

How do you feel about returning to the everyday life again after the holidays? (If you even had holidays.) On the one hand I find it nice but on the other hand not. It's nice because I can't get anything important done during holidays, so I believe all the important, undone things start to go well again with returning to the everyday routine. But on the other hand I'd like to keep doing nothing. :D Except listening to the new album by Nine Inch Nails.

Out for dinner

Tänään me käytiin kaveriporukalla syömässä Hyveessä, paikallisessa wokkipaikassa. Alakerrassa sijaitsee suklaakahvila Pahe, jonne jatkoimmekin jälkiruoalle.

Koska oon nörtti fanityttö (ja koska miun kämppä on tosi pieni eikä täällä oo kovinkaan montaa hyvää kohtaa, johon luonnonvalo tulis), piti kuvat tietenkin ottaa Darth Vader -julisteen vieressä.

Today I went with my friends out for dinner in Hyve ("virtue" in English), a local wok restaurant. Downstairs there's chocolate café Pahe ("vice" in English) where we went for dessert. (I really recommend the place if you happen to travel around here.) After the delicacies, we came to finally start the terrace season with beers and ciders.

The day was scorching again. For today's outfit, I chose a top I found in a flea market a while ago, and in fact I haven't even used it anywhere before this. Because I'm a nerdy fan girl (and because my apartment is so damn small and there aren't so many good spots with daylight here), I had to take the pictures next to the Darth Vader poster.  I'm sorry about my weary expression. :D It was hot and I was already in a hurry, but still I had to take photos.

My hair start to look like it's time to get to the hairdresser's... I had my new favourite piece of jewellery dangling on my neck! ♥ And my tights were striped and see-through. I returned to the safe black after the wild veins of yesterday.

Tomorrow, my little sister is coming over. We're going to attend Kawacon, a local convention, that has become a little tradition for us. And then I guess I should do my big sister duties and help her sewing her cosplay costume for Animecon (a bigger convention in Kuopio later this summer). I need to do some more tidying up before I can let anyone to visit me. :)

Darth Vader ja poika / Darth Vader and son

Yesterday I was looking for a birthday gift for a friend of mine, and I found a gift for myself too...

Darth Vader and son
"Pick up your toys, Luke. This instant. Luke, I am your father. Do you want a time out?"
"Umm, he looks just like you, lord Vader."
Luke: "Please dad, can we go home? I'm tired. Let's go, please!" Vader: "I find your lack of patience disturbing."
Ostin myös jotain pientä naposteltavaa sarjiksen seuraksi:

I bought also some snacks to eat while reading the comic book:

Kuivattuja mansikoita, jogurttiananasta ja tummasuklaakarpaloita. / Dried strawberries, yoghurt-covered pineapple and dark chocolate -covered cranberries.
(Löysin myös lahjan ystävälleni.
I found also a gift for my friend.)

30 Day Song Challenge – Day 23

Day 23 – A song that you want to play at your wedding
Probably I won't ever get married, because I don't really support the whole marriage institution. I have signed a "prohibition of marriage" and promised not to get married before the gender-neutral marriage law, but I don't think I'll get married even after that law. But if I did, this could be the wedding march:

But seriously, if I'd get married, it would happen in a registrary office and there would be no other people than me, my partner and the office person. It would be very simple and quick and that's it. (So probably no music either.)

~ sushi day ~

Tänään päätin kokeilla kasvissushin tekoa, koska en oo semmosta aiemmin tehnyt tai maistanut. Ah, ja pääsin kokeilemaan myös uusia Star Wars -laastareitani iskiessäni veitsen peukalooni pilkkoessani tavaraa sushia varten...

Darth Vader on my thumb!
Melkein naurattaa, miten tapaturma-altis oikeesti oon.

Mut anyway, sushi onnistui sentään ihan hyvin.

Japaniteemaan sopien voisin esitellä mangaa, jota ostin perjantaina järjestetyltä mangakirppikseltä. Manga ei oikein oo miun juttu, ja siellä kirpparilla olinkin lähinnä pikkusiskoni puolesta etsimässä häntä kiinnostavaa tavaraa, mutta tulin sitten ostaneeksi itsellenikin pari kauhumangaa. (Löysin kyllä siskollenikin jotain.)

Itse asiassa ennen noita omistin vain yhden mangateoksen, Vampire Hunter D:n ykkösosan, johon en vaan oo tullut ostaneeksi jatkoa. Muutenkaan en oo kyllä koskaan ollu oikein innostunu sarjakuvista. Nemi on oikeestaan ainoo, jota jaksan säännöllisesti lukea. Luen mieluummin kirjoja kuin sarjiksia. Mut aion antaa nyt noille ostoksilleni mahdollisuuden. :D

Translations:

Today I decided to try making vegetable sushi, as I haven't made or tasted that before. Oh and I also had a chance to try my new Star Wars plasters after stabbing a knife in my thumb while chopping stuff for the sushi...

It's almost funny how accident-prone I am. I get cuts or bruises (or sometimes even little burns) almost everyday. I haven't had any bigger accidents (yet), but I think it's probable that the cause of my death will be for example slipping after shower and hitting my head against the flagstone floor. Maybe it would be safier not to live alone, but I enjoy my peace and privacy. Well, it's my own fault if I'll die alone because there's no one to help me here.

But anyway, the sushi came out right. I always have problems with wasabi – this time I put it too much in the one sushi roll and too little in the other. Inside the roll I put cucumber and carrot, which was pretty mild combination. So basically half of the sushi didn't taste much of anything and the other half tasted of wasabi only, and it felt like the wasabi was steaming out of my nostrils. :'D

Fitting for the Japan theme, I could show some manga I bought in a manga flea market last Friday. Manga isn't really my thing, and I was on the flea market mainly because of my little sister. I was looking for stuff that she'd like, but I ended up buying some horror manga for myself. (I found something for her too.)

In fact I had only one manga before those three, the first part of Vampire Hunter D. I haven't ever really be interested in comics. Nemi is the only one I read regularly. I prefer reading books to reading comics. But I'm going to give a chance to my purchases. :D
