"Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts."

Nyt, kun jouluaatostakin alkaa olla jo pari viikkoo ja oon kotonakin ollu jo viikon, niin vois alkaa olla aika esitellä joitain lempparijoululahjojani. Sain taas aika paljo kaikkee, joten en todellakaan ala esitellä kaikkia, ja kaiken lisäks suurin osa niistä oli semmosia "tylsiä" käyttöjuttuja kuten tyynyjä ja pyyhkeitä ja sukkahousuja, joten ei niitä nyt oo mitään järkee esitellä. Mut tässä tulee nyt sekalaisessa järjestyksessä joitain kivoja juttuja, joita sain tänä jouluna.

Ensinnäkin sain taas corgiseinäkalenterin, jee! ♥

Tässä onkin sit oikeestaan tärkeimmät lahjat samassa kuvassa: uus hiustenkuivaaja, kamera ja hiiri.

Hiustenkuivaajaa käytän kyllä äärimmäisen harvoin, mut entinen kosahti just ennen jouluu, ja onhan semmonen hyvä olla olemassa, kun sitä kuitenkin joskus voi tarvita. Uus kamera sen sijaan oli ollu ykkösenä toivelistalla, ja toi Canonin IXUS 150 vaikuttaa ihan hyvältä miun tarpeisiin. Tän postauksen kuvat on (viimestä kuvaa lukuun ottamatta) otettu sillä. Alla vielä ovela peilikuvan peilikuva itse kamerasta.

Lisäks pelaajapoikaystävältäni toivoin jotain kunnon pelihiirtä, kun miulla oli ennestään vaan joku surkee langaton palikka. Alla vertailukuva. Toi Kinzu on just hyvä, kun se on vähä pienempi kuin pelihiiret yleensä eli se sopii miunkin hobittikädelle. Lisäks se tuntuu muutenkin miellyttävältä.

Kirjoja sain varmaan enemmän kuin koskaan kerralla. Tässä lempparivampyyrikirjasarjani kolme ekaa osaa samoissa kansissa sekä Finishing School -sarjan uusin osa.

Fanityttöpuoltani ei ollu myöskään unohettu, koska sain sekä Darth Vader -aamiaissetin (!!!) että Ian Doescherin William Shakespeare's Star Wars Trilogy -kirjat. Siis Shakespearen tyyliin kirjotetut episodit IV, V ja VI. Parasta.

Sit tuli kasa leivontakirjoja.

Lisäks pikkusisko yllätti ihan täysin Tom of Finland -laukkulahjallaan! En kyllä hirveesti tykkää tosta printistä, tai siis oon sitä mieltä, että Tom of Finlandin taiteesta ois varmasti löytyny parempiakin kuvia, mut oon kuitenkin innoissani tosta ideasta ja siitä, että Finlayson on uskaltanu tehä tollasia vähä erilaisia tuotteita. Lisäks toi laukku on tosi hyvänkokonen; jouluviikolla kävin kaverin luona pelailemassa lautapelejä, ja lautapeliboksi mahtu täydellisesti tohon laukkuun.

Siinäpä oli kai semmoset tärkeimmät saamani lahjat. Ite annoin kans joitain lahjoja harvoille ja valituille eli lähinnä perheelle. Poikaystävän vanhemmille virkkasin tommoset pöllölasinaluset, joista tuli mielestäni aika kivat. :) Malli on Emmacrochetdesign4U:n.

The Christmas eve was two weeks ago and I've been home for a week already, so I guess it's starting to be the time for showing some of my favourite presents. I got many kinds of things again, and I definitely am not going to show them all, since most of them are "boring" stuff like pillows and towels and tights, so there's no point in showing them. But here's, in random order, some of the cool things I got this Christmas. 

First of all, I got a new corgi calendar, yay! ♥

Then, basically the most important presents I received are on the second picture: a new hairdryer, camera and mouse.

A hairdryer is something I use quite rarely, but my old one broke down just before Christmas, and I think it's good to have one ahyway, since you do need it every once in a while. New camera was top 1 on my wishlist, and that Canon IXUS 150 seems to suit my needs. The photos of this post (except the last one) have been taken with it. There's a clever reversed photo of a mirror image where you can see the actual camera.

In addition, I wished for a proper gaming mouse from my gamer boyfriend, since I had only some sucky wireless block. There's a comparison photo. That Kinzu is just perfect, because it's smaller than an average gaming mouse, so it fits my hobbit hand too. Moreover it feels comfortable in other ways too. 

I probably got more books than ever at once. I got the first three parts of my favourite vampire book series in one book and the newest part of Finishing School series.

My fangirl side also got pampered, as I got both Darth Vader breakfast set (!!!) and the William Shakespeare's Star Wars Trilogy books by Ian Dorscher. Episodes IV, V and VI written in the style of Shakespeare. That's just awesome.

I also got a pile of baking books.

And then my little sister totally surprised me with a Tom of Finland bag she gave me! I don't actually even like the print so much, and I think there would've been much better pictures in Tom of Finland art, but I'm excited about the idea and about that Finlayson has had the courage to make a bit different products. In addition, the size of the bag is great; on the Christmas week, I went to play some board games with a friend of mine, and a board game box did fit perfectly in the bag. 

I guess those were the most important presents I received. I also gave some presents myself, mainly just for the family. For the parents of my boyfriend, I crocheted those owl coasters that turned out quite cool. :) The pattern is by Emmacrochetdesign4U.

No ei ollu oikeesti käärmeitä tukassa ja hämähäkkejä jaloissa tänään. Sen sijaan näytin tältä:



Siinä näkyy valitettavasti myös epäviehkeä keittiönurkkaukseni, pahoittelen. Enkä oo varma, oonko esitelly näitä kielinörtin lempparisukkiksia aiemmin, joten tässä vielä kuva niistäkin:

Ois kyllä kivempi, jos noissa ois ihan jotain järkeviä sanoja tms., mut onhan pelkät kirjaimetkin ihan siisti juttu. Mut melkeinpä vielä siistimpi juttu on tää monsteriboksi, jonka ostin itelleni halloween-lahjaks!

Miulla oli ennestään vaan Dracula-boksi, jossa on siis Lugosi-Dracula ja sen kolme jotain jatko-osaa, ja oon yrittäny ettii samanlaisii bokseja noista muistakin klassisista "monstereista" mut huonoin tuloksin. Mut nyt oli tullu uutuutena tommonen kaheksan leffan paketti, jossa on siis Draculan lisäks Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, The Phantom of the Opera ja Creature from the Black Lagoon. ♥ Ehkä näitten parissa jaksaa ootella loppukuun karmivia bileitä.

Well I didn't really have snakes in my hair and spiders on my feet today. Instead I looked like that. Unfortunately my not-so-beautiful kitchen corner is also visible in the photos, sorry about that. And I'm not sure if I have shown before those language geek's favourite tights, so there's a photo of them too.

I think they would be even neater if they had some actual words or something like that in them, but bare letters are quite a cool thing, too. But almost cooler thing is the monster box I bought for myself as a Halloween present!

Previously I had only a Dracula box having the Lugosi Dracula and three sequels, and I've been trying to look for other similar boxes of the other classical "monsters" but without result. But now there's this brand new box of eight movies, including Dracula, Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, The Phantom of the Opera and Creature from the Black Lagoon. ♥ Maybe these will help me to wait patiently for the creepy parties at the end of the month.

Tänään on kansainvälinen kääntäjienpäivä. Sopivasti päiväni alkoikin käännöstunnilla. En nyt aio pitää mitään paasausta kääntäjien paskasta asemasta, mut kehotan kuitenkin miettimään vähän sitä, miten tärkeitä käännökset oikeesti on ja miten suuri osa meiän lukemista teksteistä on käännöksiä.

Tänään on ollu aika väsynyt olo. Tutut univaikeudet on taas palanneet hankaloittamaan elämää, ja viime yönäkään en nukkunu juuri ollenkaan. Yliopistolla oli ihan kuollut olo, joten päätin sitten lähteä kesken päivän kotiin lepäilemään eli kirjottamaan tätä. :p

Tykkään päivän asustani, ja se tais antaakin voimaa ylipäätään raahautuu ekalle tunnille. On myös ihan siistii, että pystyn jo melkein piiloutuman tukkani taakse. En tiiä, pitäskö kasvatella etutukkaa sen verran, että siitä sais semmoset suojaverhot. Sit vois vaan kömpii jonnekin nurkkaan ja vetää tukan naaman eteen ja piiloutuu maailmalta, jos siltä tuntuu.

Tykkään myös uusista kengistäni, jotka ostin viime viikolla Anttilasta alennusmyynnistä ja joita käytin tänään ekaa kertaa. Itse asiassa kattelin noita kenkiä jo keväällä, kun ne tuli uutuutena, mut en raaskinu ostaa sillon. Yleensä ootankin, että himoitsemani vaatekappaleet tulee alennukseen, ja yleensä se kannattaa. Lisäks oon muutaman kerran löytäny myös käytettynä juttuja, joita oon ihastellu kaupassa täyshintaisena. Kirpparit on aarreaittoja.

Ja kirppareista puheen ollen: yliopistolla oli tänään pienimuotoinen opiskelijoitten kirppis, josta mukaan tarttu toi ylläoleva vampyyrikirja. En ookaan kyseiseen teokseen törmänny ennen, mut toi vaikuttaa ihan pätevältä ja monipuoliselta opukselta.

Nyt vois keitellä iltapäiväkahvit ja yrittää tehä vielä jotain hyödyllistä. (Voi kyllä olla, että päädyn vaan lukemaan tota kirjaa, mut onneks lukeminen ei koskaan oo ihan hyödytöntä.)

Today is International Translation Day. Conveniently my day started with a translation lesson. I'm not going to rant about translators' shitty position, but I hope you all think a bit about it how important translations really are and how big part of everything we read are translations.

Today I've been feeling quite tired. Familiar sleeping problems have come back to complicate my life, and last night I didn't really get much sleep. I felt like a walking dead on the university, so I decided to skip the last lesson and come home to rest, or write this. :p

I like my outfit of the day, and I think it gave me strength to even go to the first lesson today. It's also quite cool that I can already almost hide behind my hair. Maybe I should let my fringe grow, so that it would turn into a safety curtain. Then I could just crawl into some corner and pull the hair all over m face and hide there from the world, if I felt like it.

I also like my new shoes that I bought last week on sale and that I wore today for the first time. Actually I checked the shoes already on spring when they had such arrived in the store, but I couldn't afford them then. Usually I wait that the pieces of clothing I desire come on sale, and usually it's worth it. Few times I've also found on flea markets some things I've admired in stores. Flea markets are real treasure troves.

And speaking of flea markets: today there was a small students' flea market at the university, and I bought that vampire book from there. I haven't earlier stumbled on the book in question, but it seems like a diverse and valid tome.

Now I could brew some afternoon coffee and try to do look something useful. (I might just end up reading that book, but fortunately reading is never totally useless.)

Todiste siitä, että välillä meikkaankin ihan nätisti (ja että osaan sensuroida tissivakoja vieläkin nätimmin):

Tollanen naama oli perjantaina, kun katselin kauhuleffoja. Käytin pitkästä aikaa Manic Panicin Vampire Red -sävyistä huulipunaani, joka oli taannoin teinigoottivuosien lemppari. Saatoin vähä inspiroituu verestä ja vampyyreista, joita valkokankaalla oli tarkoitus näkyä.

Punaisuus toistui myös hameessa. Valitettavasti oli jo aika pimee, eikä kokoasukuvan ottaminen oikein onnistunu. Elokuvissa ois ollu vähä parantamisen varaa, mut kyllähän kauhuu on aina mukava päästä kattomaan elokuvateatteriin. On se kuitenkin aika harvinaista herkkuu.

No niin, nyt oon laiskotellu jo tarpeeks. Pitää palata takas ahkeroinnin pariin ja tutkailla mm. tällasia asioita:

There's a proof that sometimes I actually have some nice make-up (and that I can censor cleavage pretty nicely too). That's how my face looked on Friday when I was off to watch some horror movies in cinema. I haven't been using the Vampire Red shaded lipstick by Manic Panic for a while, though it was my favourite back in my teenage goth days. I might got a bit inspired by blood and vampires I was ecxpecting to see on the screen.

My skirt had also some red in it. Unfortunately it was quite dark already, so taking a full outfit photo didn't really work out. I think the movies could've been a bit better, but anyway it's always nice to get to watch horror in cinema. It's quite rare.

Oh well, I've been idling for long enough already. I have to get back to school stuff and study for example imperative and interrogative structures. Maybe you don't care about things like that, but I consider them quite cool. :> I have to submit a written work today, and those things have to do with it. Luckily it's almost ready. Bye!

My Halloween (finally)

No niin, nyt lopulta on luvassa pieni halloween-postaus, mut parempi myöhään kuin ei milloinkaan, vai kuinka? Mut osallistuin siis tänä vuonna kaksiin halloween-bileisiin, ja sain molempiin uljaan urhoni seuraksi. Enemmänkin bileitä ois ollut tarjolla, mutta ei vaan aika ja energia riittänyt kaikkeen.

Ekoissa bileissä me oltiin vampyyreja. Mie olin melko klassinen verenimijä, kun taas toi toinen halusi edustaa vähän modernimpaa ja kimaltelevampaa olentoa...

Harmittavasti ihQ kimallegeeli ei kimaltele tossa kuvassa niin fabulousisti kuin se oikeesti kimalsi. Ja oikeesti miekin olin ihan lempeä ja rauhaa ja rakkautta ja yksisarvisia arvostava pimeyden lapsi. Toi keppiyksisarvinen oli bileiden järjestäjän, ja oon kyllä tosi kateellinen siitä! Ja asuunihan en ostanut muuta kuin nuo huikeat piilolinssit onnistuttuani lopulta löytämään punaiset piilarit tarpeeksi suurilla vahvuuksilla.

Toisissa bileissä taas oltiin pingviinejä! Tässä meidän hienot (kännykkäkameralaatuiset) perhepotretit pikkupingu Paavon kanssa. Mie yritin olla vähän demonisempi pingviini, mutta kävi samoin kuin vampyyriasun kanssa, eli en loppujen lopuksi onnistunut olemaan kovinkaan pelottava. :D

Muut onkin kirjoitelleet halloweenistaan jo aikapäivät sit, ja kaikilla tuntuu olleen hauskaa. Vähä kyllä harmittaa, ettei halloween oo ees puoliks niin yhtä suuri juttu kuin Amerikassa, vaan joulu jyrää selvästi. Kaupoissa oli joulukamaa jo ennen kuin halloween oli kerinnyt ees tulla! Järjetöntä.

Sain muuten tänä vuonna elämäni ekan halloween-lahjan: vampyyri- ja pingviinikumppanini nimittäin osti miulle Amnesian steamin halloween-aleista. ^_^ Se oli kyllä ihana yllätys. En tosin oo vielä kerinny(/uskaltanu) kokeilla sitä, mut ehkä lähiaikoina!

Here's finally a little post about my Halloween. Better late than never, right? So, I went to two different Halloween parties this year, and I was lucky to have my dearest one as a companion in both of the parties. There were even more parties where I got invited, but I just didn't have enough time and energy for all of them. 

In the first party we dressed as vampires. I was pretty classical bloodsucker, while my other half wanted to represent a more modern and sparkling creature... Too bad the glitter gel don't sparkle in that photo as fabulously as it did in real life.

And even I was actually quite a gentle child of the night who loves peace and love and unicorns. That hobby unicorn belonged to the hostess of the party. I'm really envious of it! And I didn't buy anything for my costume except those awesome contact lenses as I managed to finally find res lenses with enough power.

And in the second party we were penguins! There you can see our gorgeous (camera phone quality) family portraits with little penguin Paavo. I was trying to be a more demonic penguin, but like with the vampire costume, I didn't really succeed in being scary. :D

I've seen people write about their Halloween a while ago, and it seems everybody was having a good time. It's a shame Halloween isn't eve half as big deal here in Finland as it is in America, but Christmas clearly overrules. There were Christmas stuff in the stores even before Halloween had arrived! That's just insane.

By the way, this year I got my first Halloween present ever: my vampire and penguin partner bought me Amnesia from Steam Halloween sales. ^_^ That was a lovely surprise. I haven't yet had time (/courage) to try it, but maybe in the near future!

Ihanan synkeätä goottipäivää kaikille gooteille ja gootinmielisille! Aiotteko juhlistaa päivää jotenkin? Miulla on tiedossa varmaankin ihan kotipäivä, mutta pitänee joka tapauksessa verhoutua samettiin, kuunnella The Sisters of Mercyä, juoda punaviiniä kuunvalossa, lukea E.A. Poeta, ehkä katsoa jotain vanhaa kunnon vampyyrileffaa. Joskus aiemmin keväällä mietin, että ois ollu kiva pitää öinen goottipiknikki jossain hautausmaalla vaikka, mutta valitettavasti en oikein tunne täkäläisiä gootteja. :/

I wish you all goths and goth-minded people a gloomy and lovely Goth Day! Are you going to celebrate the day somehow? I'll probably have just a home day, but maybe I should anyway drape myself in velvet, listen to The Sisters of Mercy, drink red wine in the moonlight, read E.A. Poe, maybe watch some good old school vampire movie. Earlier in the spring I thought it would be nice to have a nocturnal goth picnic in a graveyard for example, but unfortunately I don't really now goths here. :/

Hah, löysin hienon kuvaefektiohjelman. :'D Toi kuva miusta on viime syksyn stereotypiabileistä, joissa olin siis  pukeutunut stereotyyppiseksi gootiksi. Oli ihan siistii olla ilman kulmakarvoja jonkin aikaa. Mut joo, pitää varmaan lähtee ostamaan sitä punaviiniä illaksi. Jätän teille tähän muutaman fiilistelybiisin! Ah, klassikoita.

Hah, I found a wonderful photo effect program. :'D That picture of me is from last autumn's stereotype party where I was dressed as a stereotypical goth, as you can see. It was pretty cool to be without eyebrows for a while. But right, I guess I have to go and buy that red wine for the evening. I leave a few atmospheric songs for you here. Ah, classics.

Moikka. Pahoittelen taas kerran epäaktiivista bloggailuani. Pitäs ehkä alottaa taas joku päivittäinen haaste, niin tulis kirjotettuu ees jotain säännöllisesti. Mut aattelin nyt kertoilla jotain, mitä miun elämässä on tässä ehtiny tapahtuu.

Eli ei mitään kovin ihmeellistä.

Mut ostin uuden läppärin. Läppärin uusiminen on kyllä ollu suunnitteilla jo ainakin vuoden, koska vanha koneeni on kyllä ollut jo pitkään aika surkeessa kunnossa.

Tommonen löytyy nyt mustana tästä kätösteni alta. Aattelin, että ois tylsää kuvata pelkkää läppärii. Noista ehkä tulee paremmin jotain selville.

Oon myös päässy pelaamaan taas vuosien tauon jälkeen yhtä kaikkien aikojen lempparipeleistäni, nimittäin tätä:

Sain ton toimimaan uudella koneellani, ja voi ah. ♥ Oon omistanu ton pelin yhdeksisen vuotta, mutten oo silti tainnu koskaan päästä sitä kokonaan läpi, lähinnä teknisten ongelmien takii. Nyt oon pelannu tota ihan ekstaasissa pari päivää. Tolla pelillä on muuten äärimmäisen upea soundtrackikin, siis sekä Rik Schafferin tunnelmallisten pelimusiikkien että muun musiikin (Tiamat, Lacuna Coil, Ministry...) osalta.

Ja musiikista ja ekstaasista puheen ollen, olin lauantaina Stam1nan keikalla, ja siellä oli kyllä kans aika ekstaattista. Tää oli toinen kerta, kun oon nähny Stampan livenä, ja oon kyllä nauttinu suunnattomasti molemmista keikoista. Toivottavasti tulevat pian taas tänne uudestaan. ♥

Tulinpa ostaneeksi myös uudet tennarit. Vanhoilla on tullutkin talsittua jo monen vuoden ajan, mikä kyllä taitaa myös näkyä kengistä.

Sain pitkästä aikaa myös napattua kuvan päivän asusta, vaikkakin hieman huonon sellaisen:

Söin tänään laskiaispullan, vaikken yleensä oikein ees pidä pullasta, mutta miulla on tapana syödä yksi laskiaispulla aina laskiaisena. Jotenkin oon myös ollu hempeissä (ystävänpäivä?)fiiliksissä, vaikken täksi ystävänpäiväksi oo poikkeuksellisesti ees tehny kortteja kellekään muille kuin omalle kullannupulle.

(Se on hiirimatto, jos ihmettelitte. Se on aika ruma, mut valikoima oli hyvin suppea, ja hei, toi on myös mikrokuituliina. Ja rakkaus on ihanaa.)

Tällä kertaa laitoin sääntöjen vastaisesti kaks biisii, koska en osannut äkikseltään päättää lempielokuvaani. Interview with the Vampire ja The Crow molemmat keikkuu siellä aika korkeella, mutta ei niistäkään kumpikaan oo mitenkään ehdottoman upea. Tai siis, oon hyvin nirso elokuvien ja kirjojen suhteen, enkä yleensä niiden joukosta löydäkään mitään ehdottomia suosikkeja.

This time I had to break the rules and put two songs, because I couldn't decide what's my favourite movie. Both Interview with the Vampire and The Crow hang there pretty high, but even neither of them is that extremely special. I mean, I'm very fastidious about movies and books, and usually I don't find any absolute favourites among them.

Päätin hyvästellä laukun, joka on uskollisesti palvellut minua koululaukkuna kaks ja puol vuotta. Tykkään siitä ihan superpaljon, mut se alkaa olla jo aika nuhjuisessa kunnossa.

Siirrän noi pinssit varmaan uuteen laukkuuni, jotta se tuntuisi tutummalta. Hain juuri postista paketin, joka sisälsi myös edellisen laukkuni seuraajan. Oon yrittänyt tässä totuttautuu siihen, kun se on niin uusi ja jäykkä ja siisti. Entinen laukku oli pehmennyt ja muokkautunut juuri sopivaksi.

Hyvin samankaltaisella värimaailmalla jatketaan, mutta en vielä osaa sanoo, pidänkö hirveesti tuosta uudesta laukusta. Onhan se ihan kiva, mut en tiiä. Edelliseen kerkis muodostuu jo tunneside. :/ Mut enköhän tuohon uuteenkin totu!

I decided to say goodbye to the bag that has faithfully served me as a schoolbag for two and a half years. I like it very much, but it starts to be pretty shabby.

I'll probably move those lapel pins from the old bag to the new one to make it feel more familiar. I just picked up a packet from the post office, and the packet included also the successor of my former bag. I've been trying to accustom myself to it, because it's so new and stiff and clean.

The colours are very similar, but I can't yet tell if I really like that new bag. Sure, it is nice, but I don't know. I had formed an emotional bond with the former one. :/ But I guess I'll grow accustomed to the new one also!

"Don't call the world dirty because you forgot to clean your glasses"

Actually my glasses didn't need cleaning but renewal. Last week I ordered a pair from Specsavers, and I got them yesterday already! Now I've been practising wearing them, because they are pretty different than my former glasses and I wear contact lenses more often. But here's some pictures...

So they are Red Or Dead's designer glasses, and I'm pretty satisfied with them, though I think I look much better without any glasses. I got my first glasses a bit over ten years ago, but still I'm not used to wearing glasses. :/ It's so much more confortable and anyway pleasant to wear contact lenses, but they of course will cost more in the long run.

I don't look so happy with my glasses. :D And my eyes look somehow weird here. And the colour is weird too. I had a kind of vampire-inspired day, I had red eye-liner...
